2026 Cook Assistant - RED SALMON (CKASST - RSC)

Department: RSC-INDIRECT LABOR
Location: Naknek, AK

Job Summary:
We at Red Salmon Cannery located in Naknek, Alaska are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Cook Assistant to support our team in preparing delicious dishes. The Cook Assistant will assist with food preparation, cooking, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen area.

Qualifications:

  • 18+ years old.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Willing to live and work with a culturally diverse workforce.

- High school diploma or equivalent, or one year+ of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience working in a kitchen or food preparation setting.
- Basic understanding of cooking techniques and food safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Appropriate food handler’s permit.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing ingredients for menu items.
- Help with cooking and plating dishes under the supervision of the head chef.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
- Follow proper food handling procedures and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the head chef or kitchen manager.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Other Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use, problem analysis, training and supervision skills.

Important Considerations

This work can be hard, monotonous, and boring. Most cell phones do not work in remote areas of Alaska. For Example: GCI cell phones are the most reliable in Naknek, while T-Mobile and Verizon occasionally work. WiFi is very limited.
