Fish Ticket Clerk – SITKA SOUND SEAFOODS (FISHTK - SSS)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Fish Ticket Clerk processes fish tickets from multiple gear types for salmon, groundfish and shellfish fisheries that are landed on tenders or at the plant. This position manages credits and charges on fisher and tender accounts, issues payments, sends out monthly statements and follows up on outstanding debt on accounts. Sets up new fishers in Northscope, creates and maintains files. Assigns buying gear to tenders and communicates price changes to the tender fleet. Creates and submits internal and external reports for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Assists with general office tasks such as answering the phone, helping guests at the front desk, and sorting mail. Due to the seasonal nature of our industry, the Fish Ticket Clerk works extended hours, seven days per week during peak production seasons. This position is non-exempt from overtime (paid for overtime) and reports to the Office Manager.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Manages the accounting and administrative side of fish and shellfish purchases from the fishing fleet. Sets up and maintains fisher and tender accounts, processes fish tickets (E-Landings), enters charges and issues payment. Uploads fish ticket data into Northscope, the accounting system used at the plant. Reviews tickets for accuracy (weights, species, fishing area, gear type, etc.).
  • Processes tender landings (T-landings).
  • Completes all ADFG and NOAA reports. Point of contact for regulatory agencies on questions related to fish tickets and reports.
  • Provides monthly statements to fishers and follows up on outstanding balances.
  • Works with tenders to ensure they have the gear and training to purchase fish. Communicates routinely with the tenders to solve problems and update them on changing prices.
  • Develops and maintains excellent, professional relationships with the fleet.
  • Creates internal reports related to fish purchases.
  • Assists with plant traces and audits.
  • Helps with front desk office duties such as answering the phone and radio, greeting guests, selling apparel, sorting mail, running office errands as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICIATIONS

  • 2+ years processing fish tickets.
  • Ability to work extended hours, seven days a week, during peak production periods.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • High degree of integrity, ethics and professionalism. Proven track record of safeguarding confidential information.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Willingness to work in an office setting in a seafood processing plant.
  • Valid driver license to be able to run errands as needed.
  • Seafood production experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is mainly performed in an office setting, but it is located at a seafood processing plant. This type of environment has cold/humid conditions, and there is exposure to raw fish in the processing areas. Areas within the plant contain moving machinery, loud noise, and forklift traffic.
